Featured Artist: T’Nez
Tristan O’Brian Barnes more popularly known as T’NEZ was born in Truro Westmoreland on September 30th, 1987. From the tender age of nine his remarkable ability to carry a tune was discovered one evening while he was enjoying quality time with his mother (THE LIGHT OF HIS LIFE). In a quiet moment he proceeded to belt out a Celene Dion ballad and all those within earshot were astounded by the voice that emanated from the precocious, wide eyed, eager yet somewhat shy Tristan. This effort was met with screams of amazement as his audience begged him to “sing di tune again mi boss!” “wheel and come again!”
T’NEZ wrote his first song at age thirteen upon meeting friends at the Rusea’s High School who shared his passion for music and performing. He subsequently did some recordings and performed them at talent shows in his parish and neighbouring parishes; where he was met with rave reviews. Music is T’NEZ’ first love however his thirst for knowledge and hunger for success ensured that he did not lose sight of his scholastic aspirations. The artiste and entrepreneur in the training always maintained the belief that education would be his means of escaping his family’s financial instability.
This hunger for success and knowledge that Tristan O’Brian T’NEZ Barnes possessed was apparent to all those around him when he acquired eight (8) C.X.C. subjects and seven (7) units of the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (C.A.P.E.) at Ruseas High School. The Sixth Form called and yet again the MAN OF ACTION answered; rose to the occasion and successfully completed his high school tenure.
In hot pursuit of his dreams T’NEZ packed his hopes and fears in suitcases and left for Kingston to pursue upliftment through music and higher education. Kingston was wrought with adversity but his unshakeable faith in God and the good friendships he cultivated dictate that he stay on the straight and narrow. One such friend was Rohan Steele, one of the Chief Executive Officers of the ticketing company Island Stubs. Rohan Steele regrettably passed away as a result of cancer while in the process of formally launching T”NEZ career (R.I.P. Steele).
Hot Wire Studios’ producer Shotta T and T’NEZ collaborated to create some demos that were subsequently sent to Jordan Mcclure from Chimney Records. The music struck a chord with Jordan who requested that they start working immediately on the single “What’s Up money”
Top producers islandwide heard the melodious refrain “SEH DEM FI KNOW SEH A T’NEZ” and came calling. Hitting the studio with a vengeance the artiste collaborated with several top producers for such hits as — Ital Jockey (Di Genius), Me She Love (Troyton), Nuh Stop Di Wining (Supa Hype), Wine pan Gyal (Notice Productions), Mi Madda Nah Cry (Dj Frass).
“KEEP YOUR EYES AND EARS OPEN AND MAKE PREPARATIONS FOR ALTERNATE MEANS OF SHELTER BECAUSE THE BETTER DAYS MIXTAPE PRODUCED BY BLACK CHINEY IS GONNA DROP LIKE A BOMB WITH PERFECT PRECISION, TIMING AND ACCURACY”
